Hey Bloomers! 🌼💛 It is a commendable thing to be in the pursuit of becoming a better version of yourself. This usually involves certain goals that you want to meet in order to reach that place. However, it’s important not to tie your happiness to an end goal. Even before reaching your goals, you can be in a state of happiness, or at least contentment. This blog post is therefore a discussion on how to remain happy while working for more.
Not delaying your happiness
Your dreams and ambitions are valid, but you can’t delay your happiness until the things you desire have been achieved. If it takes 10 years to realise your dream, are you going to be miserable in the meantime? No. You have to allow yourself to be happy with where you are right now. Be happy with yourself in this present moment while still loving yourself enough to reach for more. Whatever your goal is, be it landing your dream job or getting in shape, you can be excited about reaching the end goal while still appreciating exactly where you are.
The question therefore becomes how to remain happy while working for me. Understandably, many people work for more because they’re not happy with where they currently are. This may therefore be a task and a half. Although often a challenge, it is necessary. These are therefore 3 tips on how to remain happy while working for more.
How to remain happy while working for more: 3 tips
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful. Although some things may be going wrong in your life, there are others that are going right.
This does not mean that you have to engage in a behaviour of toxic positivity. You don’t have to force yourself to be happy and positive about everything. All emotions have a place in the world and if you are currently going through a period that feels awful, you are allowed to embrace that because your feelings are valid.
Gratitude simply means that while you acknowledge the bad in your life, make it a point to acknowledge the good more. There is always something to be grateful for each and every day. The fact that you are reading this blog post means that you woke up today, and it’s difficult to think of something to be more grateful for than that.
Gratitude is therefore a way to remain happy while working for more. Even if you may not be completely happy with where you’re at with your goals or your life in general, there are still things to be thankful for. That, will allow you to be happy while working for me. Let’s refer back to the two examples that we used earlier. If you still haven’t landed your dream job, be thankful for the one you currently have as it is sustaining you. While doing this, love yourself enough to continue working for that dream job. If you want to get in shape, be thankful for the progress that you have made thus far, or even the shoes that you use to workout.
The thing about gratitude is that it allows you to reach your dreams and your goals. How can God trust you with a lot of he can’t trust you with a little? Be grateful for what you have, be happy with where you are, while still understanding that you are meant for more. That is how you can use gratitude to remain happy while working for me.
However, this point has to be stressed again: refrain from toxic positivity. A situation can be horrible, and that’s okay. Gratitude is simply acknowledging all the other good that is going on in your life and sometimes even the good coming out of a horrible situation.
2. Embracing the journey together with the destination
Another way to remain happy while working for more is to not only embrace the destination, but the journey as well. Sometimes people become so obsessed with where they want to be that they forget to enjoy the process of getting there. What if you get to that destination and realise that you are not as happy as you thought you would be upon arrival? Happiness is an internal task. You shouldn’t wait for something to happen for you to be happy. Be happy while you wait! That way, you will not put an unreasonable amount of pressure on your destination to bring you happiness, as you would have already been living in it. Rather, the destination may increase your already existing happiness, and that is a healthy place to be in.
Let’s go back to our two examples. While working to lend your dream job, you can start becoming excited about the process to get there. Enjoy everything in between such as learning new skills that will increase your value, researching ways to better position yourself for the job, and meeting new people along the way. If your goal is to get in shape, enjoy everything along the way such as buying your new workout outfits, and enjoying the actual process of exercising by looking for workouts that actually make you feel happy instead of feeling like you are punishing yourself. There are tons of options to choose from!
Enjoy the journey as you wait for the destination. That is a practical way to remain happy while working for more. By the time you reach the destination, it will be a wonderful addition to the happiness that you would have already been cultivating inward.
3. You are exactly where you’re meant to be
As cliché as it sounds, you are exactly where you’re meant to be right in this moment. It may seem like your dreams are taking too long to actualise, but everything works in perfect timing. Have you ever felt like something you wanted was taking too long to come and then when it finally arrived you couldn’t have imagined receiving it any earlier or later? That is because everything works exactly when it’s supposed to, like clock work.
God is never too early nor too late. Always remember the promise that He made to us in Jeremiah.
Knowing that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be is therefore a way to remain happy while working for more. You can be happy knowing that what you desire will come when the time is right, and in the meantime, you can be faithful while embracing the greatness that awaits you.
