Five wellness habits to include in your daily routine

Five wellness habits

Hey Bloomers! 🌼💛 In your wellness journey, it may be beneficial to add some habits to your daily routine. This way, your wellness will not be an afterthought. Instead, it will be an important part of your life that you live out effortlessly. This blog post will focus on five wellness habits that you can include in your daily routine.

Holistic wellness

Wellness is a broad concept and it encompasses different aspects. As we always say on the blog, the phrase ‘holistic wellness’ is important because it’s a reminder of the existence of all these different aspects. Holistic wellness is made up of a number of factors, and some of these include the spiritual, mental, emotional, physical and social. You will however come to find that these aspects are all related and speak to each other.

This blog post will suggest five wellness habits that you can add to your daily routine, and these habits will touch on the different aspects of wellness, as the goal is to achieve holistic wellness.

1. Spiritual wellness: Starting your day with God

Spending time with God

Spiritual wellness is defined as the state of “being connected to something greater than yourself and having a set of values, principles, morals and beliefs that provide a sense of purpose and meaning to life, then using those principles to guide your actions”. One of the ways in which you can practice spiritual wellness is by starting your day with God, whatever this means to you personally. Some people may choose to start their day with God through prayer, others by reading the Word, some by praising and worshiping through song, or even a combination of all these things.

Starting your day with God can significantly improve your day and overall wellbeing as it allows you to be reminded of His presence, love and guidance before starting anything else in the day. This may also sip into the other aspects of wellness such as mental wellness and emotional wellness.

2. Mental wellness: Breathing exercises

Breathing exercises

Mental wellness is when one’s mind is in order and functioning in their best interest. Because our minds are at work throughout the day, it is important to have a daily wellness habit that focuses on your mental wellness. An easy one could be practicing breathing exercises.

One of the benefits of breathing exercises is that they help you to feel relaxed. A good time to practice this could be in the middle of the day, to allow yourself to re-centre and be realigned despite the things that are going on in the day.

3: Emotional wellness: Journaling

Five wellness habits - Journaling

Emotional wellness refers to the ability to have, amongst other things, positive emotions and feelings as well as be adaptable when faced with unfavourable situations. Journaling is a way in which one can improve their emotional wellness. There are a variety of feelings and emotions that you may be faced with and a failure to unpack these may be detrimental to your wellness.

Journaling allows you to do this unpacking as well as put things into perspective. It allows you to order jumbled up feelings and thoughts and understand why you feel the way that you do and possibly find solutions for these feelings. It is therefore beneficial to make journaling a part of your daily routine, so that you are in a constant state of ordering jumbled up feelings and thoughts, hence improving your emotional wellness.

4. Physical wellness: Movement

Physical wellness involves knowing your body and providing it with what it needs for health, healing and energy. A beneficial physical wellness habit that you can add to your daily routine is movement. Using a broad term such as “movement” is important because it ensures that you don’t feel pressurised, thereby protecting the other aspects of your wellness such as the mental and the physical. Of course it’s important to challenge yourself, but that’s not what this specific blog post is about. This one is about forming habits that you can easily exercise daily

The word “movement” is broad and can mean many things. It can mean working out, going for a walk, or even dancing. The important thing is simply to move. There are several benefits associated with prioritising movement everyday, and some of them include regulated, improved mood and improved energy levels. Evidently, all the different wellness aspects are linked and work together to ensure that one attains holistic wellness.

5. Social wellness: Checking up on your friends

Social wellness is about developing and sustaining meaningful relationships with others. One way in which you can develop your social wellness daily is by checking up on your friends. This can be in person, through a call, or even texting. This is not only beneficial for you, but for your friends too. It’s a reminder that you love them and care about their wellbeing. So, challenge yourself to have checked up on at least one of your friends by the end of every day.
