Getting your head back in the game

Hey Bloomers! 🌼 This blog post is about getting your head back in the game, and we’re going to use football as a reference point. (Liverpool of course 😌😂).

1-0 Fake Scenario

We’re twenty minutes into the game and the opposing team, by some miracle, manages to get past Van Dijk and Alison and scores. That could be discouraging for the players, even demotivating. But you know what? In those few minutes that the other team is celebrating their goal, I assume that Liverpool has to feel what they’re feeling and immediately let it go. Because if they dwell on that negativity, it will affect the rest of the game. They have to get their head back in the game as quickly as possible. There’s still a minimum of 65 minutes to be played. So much good can happen in that time, but only if the team stays motivated. Only if they get their heads back in the game.

This is the same thing that happens in everyday life. Life, as it repeatedly reminds us, doesn’t always go according to our plans. We find multiple obstacles along the way and we cannot allow ourselves to dwell on these. Yes, we have to acknowledge them. But afterwards, we have to get our heads back in the game because there is still so much good that can be done. One goal against you doesn’t mean that you’ve lost the match.

Feel what you need to feel and then let it go. Do not let it consume you.

Now, let’s get to the reallyyyy interesting stuff.

Real life scenarios 🤪

3-0 Loss Against Barcelona

This has to be one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen in my life. Some of you already know this story but I’ll explain it for the sake of those who don’t. It was the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final. Liverpool and Barcelona. The first game was played and Liverpool lost 3-0 to Barcelona. 3-0!!! Which means one of the ways for them to get to the final was by winning 4-0 against Barcelona in the next game. I’m sure many people thought it was impossible, that Barcelona had already secured its ticket to the final. But Liverpool proved them wrong and they did indeed win 4-0 against Barcelona in one of the most emotional Anfield matches ever.

Imagine bouncing bounce back from a 3-0 loss. It’s only possible through getting your head back in the game. If Liverpool had accepted defeat and accepted that the bridge was too difficult to cross, that magical night in Anfield would never have happened. But no matter how difficult it looked, the boys had to get their heads back in the game. And they went on to win the Champions League that season 🏆🥇

One thing to learn from this semi-final is that it’s not over until it’s over. Yes, they lost massively in the first game. But that wasn’t the last game. They still had an opportunity to bounce back. And as long as you still have an opportunity to bounce back, you have to get your head back in the game. Because an opportunity to bounce back can only be taken the best advantage of if you’re in the right state of mind.

Finishing 3rd in the 2020/21 Premier League Season

This had to have been a testing season for Liverpool. There were multiple injuries that led to the team having problems, particularly in the defence. With only 10 games to go, Liverpool was in the 8th position. It seemed unlikely that they would make it into the top 4 (and hence qualify for the next Champions League season). But even with setback after setback, Liverpool got their head back into the game. And finished the season in 3rd position!

Again I say, it’s not over until it’s over. And that is one very valuable lesson that we can learn from this team. If it’s not yet over, you still have the opportunity to achieve your goals. And it starts in the mind. You have to get your head back in the game.

I’m going to leave Youtube links to the two Liverpool and Barcelona Semi-Final games’ highlights for anyone who needs motivation ☺️

And lastly, this is just a reminder that I still care about all the Barcelona Bloomers 😌 Sorry for throwing you under the bus 😂❤️❤️💖💖

What a way to start the semester. With the facts you just dropped, it’s hard not to be inspired to get our heads back into the game😅. I love how you mention that we have to feel what we are feeling but not dwell on it, which I believe is a healthy suggestion. The battle is all in the mind and I believe that as long as we are still breathing, it means that God is not done with us yet so we have another chance to go at it even harder than before🙂. Girl, you should open up a Liverpool page or something 🤩 Now I have something to say when someone brings up discussion about soccer/Liverpool.

Thank you for such beautiful and thoughtful feedback, friend!! Amen to that, God is not done with us yet 👏🏾

Glad you can now contribute to soccer discussions 😂😂😂 Ttyl, I’m going to open a Liverpool page 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️

This post motivated me to start studying because I’d been going through a burn out phase and the depression I’d packed away was starting to come back. Today I was going through my old file from my first year in highschool and I began to see that I’d let my mind tell me that I’d never be able to pass the way I did back then and I’d keep failing like I was. It honestly made me want to break down, but after seeing this I’m motivated to sit at that desk and give it my all. It’s not over until it’s over, until God says it’s over.Thank you so much for this blog😪. You’re Godsent 💕

Wow, this really touched my heart Sid! Finding the strength to start again means half the battle has already been won. Continue believing in yourself and you’re going to do great!! I believe in you ☺️ And I’m going to keep you in my prayers ❤️❤️❤️

I tried to not take the Barcelona vs Liverpool talk personal but hai no… my heart is sore😂💔 but your message came thru💯
