Hey Bloomers! 🌼 Today I wanted to give you a reminder to reflect on how far you’ve come. It’s a beautiful thing that we’re always looking for ways to improve the different aspects of our lives. Evolving is not only helpful, it’s necessary. HOWEVER, sometimes you just have to pause and reflect on how far you’ve come. You’ll be glad you did it.
What’s reflecting? According to the Cambridge Dictionary, to reflect is to THINK CAREFULLY. It’s important to take the time to think carefully about how far you’ve come. You can get lost in the world of always trying to be better. The world of always being on go. But all that isn’t useful when you don’t reflect on, and bask in the joy and success that you’ve created for yourself. Happiness is the main priority. Allow yourself to be happy for yourself. Happy to be where you have reached in your journey.Â
Be proud of yourself, really!!
My question is, do you remember when you started? I know something popped into your head when I asked that question. Yes, reflect on THAT. Do you remember when you started it? The journey ahead seemed so uncertain, and it indeed came with some difficultly. There were many things that you had to get over, and you did overcome them. You never gave up. And although you might not be exactly where you want to be, you’re much closer than you were when you started.Â
You’ve already overcome the most difficult part: starting. There’s a lot of strength that goes into starting anything. For instance, you have to get over the mental hurdle of fear. There are also a lot of resources that go into starting, sometimes even financial resources. That’s why the mere fact that you started means you have it in you to succeed.
Progress
There’s a powerful word that’ll help during reflection: PROGRESS. Before you start doing anything, it’s all a thought in your mind. Self-improvement, a new business, a degree, a passion, those are all things that begin in the mind. The fact that you’re actually doing something about it now means it changed from being just a thought in your mind into reality. You executed that. You 👏🏾 Did 👏🏾 That 👏🏾 And you know what that’s called? That’s progress. You moved from one point to another. And progress, no matter how “small”, ought to be celebrated.
The role of gratitude in reflection
Yes, I know I talk about gratitude alllllll the time, but it’s because something that has the potential to change lives has to be emphasised. Understanding gratitude changed my life, and I hope that it can change yours too. Here are two blog posts in which I went deeper into the concept: 1) Best lesson I learnt from having a gratitude journal. 2) It all comes down to gratitude.Â
Okay… back to the role of gratitude in reflection. If you take time to reflect on how far you’ve come, you’ll become more grateful for where you are. It’s heavy, I know. Feeling like you keep pushing and you keep trying but you’re not getting to where you desire to be. Seeing just how far you’ve come will make you thankful for where you are now. And even motivate you to continue going. Because if you could come this far, you can go even further.
Take that time to reflect. And after that, activate beast mode again 💪🏾 Your dreams are yours for a reason, and you can achieve anything you set your mind on. Believe that.
Bloomers, this was my way of reminding you to reflect on how far you’ve come. Not everyone sees the work that you put in, but you do. Before you move on to the next thing, enjoy and appreciate this moment. And be proud of what you’ve done so far ❤️
